Locked-In Syndrome is a rare condition which this movie provides a first hand account of by turning the control of the camera lens over to the victim, Jean Dominique Bauby, a former editor of the magazine “Elle”. It reminded me of how precious of abilities to communicate are and how often our senses are underutilized in a lifetime filled with oppotunities to do so. I was moved at the therapists dedication to making a difference in Jean Dominique’s condition and eventually his amazing accomplishments. This movie is hard to watch due to the unsteady and often out of focus camera angles and it takes a determined heart to stay the course. I give it a 4 out of 5 and that’s because I am ignorant of the true genius of this work. I don’t give many 5s anyway. This movie is in French with English subtitles and it born of the spirit of imagination that inspires everyone faced with challenges. Imagination and memory are the tools of our human condition and with them we all have the potential to realize life’s call to a purpose higher, a dreamer’s anthem that echoes in our inner – God-inspired work which can be created or left undone based on our will to “do it”.
